Happy Spring!

endless summer

Two of our favorite finishes perfect for bringing summer inside the home are Cerused White Oak and Bleached Ash.

Cerused White Oak (shown on our Pacific Sideboard above and our Sebastian Etagere 4S below) is a finish that was made popular during the Art Deco era. While the original technique entailed filling the grain of a porous wood with white lead, it can now be achieved with nontoxic liming waxes.  We primarily use a white liming wax to highlight the linear grain of rift sawn white oak.  This creates a lovely contrast with the warm tones of the wood and accentuates the natural beauty of the material.

We love bleached ash (like in this example of our St. Charles Double Bolster Daybed above and the St. Charles Armchair and Occasional Tables below) because the process lightens the tone of the wood without diminishing the natural characteristics of the grain.  Once sanded, the wood is then bleached and finally finished with a lightly tinted white oil.  The finished product is a creamy white tone that pairs beautifully with other woods.

We hope that you enjoy the remainder of the summer and we can’t wait to hear from you!

09/2020 - NEW WORK FOR FALL

VOLK Furniture is pleased to introduce three new items for release this Autumn. Each has roots in a classic VOLK form but has been reinvented to become an independent and original design. The new items continue to explore the elegance of simplicity and to balance the necessity of comfort with an austerity of form.

The St. Charles Double Bolster Daybed is a re-imagining of our original daybed design featuring color-blocked upholstery meant to highlight the architectural structure that anchors the piece. The added luxury of a thicker cushion and bolster transforms the refined statement piece into a perfect spot to lounge with a favorite book. The St. Charles Dining Chair is an evolution of the popular St. Charles Armchair, maintaining the same light and airy form of its predecessor with a minimal frame and a pop of color and comfort in the upholstery. Featuring the beautifully detailed turned brass legs and hardware that accentuate the Pacific Collection, the proportions of the Pacific Nightstand suggest calmness and harmony. The single drawer configuration with storage space below allows for easy organization of all books and objects kept bedside. As with the entire VOLK catalogue, these new pieces are customizable and we invite designer or client participation to select the perfect combination of materials and finishes to complement a space.

05/2019 - VOLK FURNITURE FOR NEXT LEVEL NYC

VOLK Furniture is presenting re-imagined versions of three pieces from the St. Charles and Sebastian Collections for Next Level NYC - 718 Broadway, May 18 - 27th. Color has often been a part of the brand’s aesthetic and the selected pieces, originally presented in muted tones, provide the perfect framework for the application of color in a bold and direct manner. The similar and repeating shapes, surfaces and upholstery of the works are color-blocked, serving to both highlight and to disrupt the harmony and balance of the collection’s related forms.
